I’m a veteran. More than a few of my friends don’t know that. It’s not something I talk about often. It’s not out of shame. I just live a different life now.
As it happens, I served in TWO branches of service. I spent four-plus years in the U.S. Army Reserve before spending almost five years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, where I was a military journalist. I was discharged in 1992.
I was able to see things I never thought I’d see, go places I never thought I’d go, and meet people I never thought I’d meet. Like ABC News reporter Sam Donaldson, a real powerhouse journalist of his era.

There were things I loved and things I hated. But the military helped shape me (particularly for a life in law enforcement), and I have no regrets.
I’ve been rewatching The Pacific and Masters of the Air. I’m also hooked on watching “reaction” videos on YouTube for Band of Brothers. All three were produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. All three are excellent.
Needless to say, I’ve also watched more than a few military movies. In addition to seeing some quality film, I also heard some really good music. So, I decided to put together a playlist of some of my favorite music from these films.
May 16 was Armed Forces Day. I took a moment to pay tribute. I wasn’t planning on sharing this playlist, but then I decided, why not?
So, here it is. Some of my favorite military film music.
Thank you to all who served with me and those who serve now.
