EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, The Mosquito Bowl (Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Wow.

Just … WOW

I’ve been a fan of these post-rockers for years. They have an amazing sound. Ambient guitars, spacious melodic soundscapes, open-ended compositions … they’re one of those bands you can spot from a mile off.

Not this time.

This soundtrack for a soon to be released Netflix film heads in a completely different direction. The sound is lush but unforgiving, probably driven by the movie’s World War II setting. More importantly, its synthesizers that power the music forward. Guitars are all but invisible.

That doesn’t matter. The instruments and their mix surround you, pulsate through your body, and tear your heart to shreds.

As it should.
