MIKE KENEALLY, Wooden Smoke

I was in the early days of my Mike Keneally fandom. I was familiar with his aggressive electric guitar work through Frank Zappa and Beer for Dolphins. Needless to say, this masterwork knocked me on my keister. Softly.

This album is positively GORGEOUS. Mike’s acoustic playing is otherworldly. I can only aspire to those chops. And the album also has remarkable depth. Even with acoustic guitar, you can feel the mix going right through your chest.

Wooden Smoke remains a Keneally favorite. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
