CirdecSongs Spins 80’s College Rock

I really enjoyed the “College Rock” of the eighties and early nineties. Bands were so much more independent, even if they weren’t always deemed to have “commercial appeal,” which I find ridiculous.

The best way to catch so many of these bands like R.E.M., U2, The Cure, The B-52s and the like was during this era, just before they came above ground and made their way to the “Alternative” commercial stations that started to pop up in the early nineties.

As usual, consultants came along and screwed everything up. “Why play Ned’s Atomic Dustbin when we can play three more bands that sound like Pearl Jam?” Now I enjoy Pearl Jam, but I only need one of them on the radio.

Alas, the consultants didn’t see it that way, and a great format was ruined.

So, here are a few of the many bands I enjoyed during the quality College Rock years, when you had to find that static-filled low-watt independent station on the far left end of your radio dial.

It was a glorious era.
