The thing is, there’s more music out there than I can shake a stick at. Between the email requests (keep ‘em coming!) and Instagram, I’m positively flooded! This is what a friend of mine likes to call a good problem to have. And he’s absolutely right.
For this batch, I’ll do my best to stick to new releases.

PERSPECTIV, Year Two (2025). It starts out jazzy, veers into metal, throws in some electronica, and damned if the don’t sneak a subtle country lick into the background. And all this happens before the first vocals are sung! Setups don’t get much crazier than this! Perspectiv settles into the realm of prog metal, but the craziness still lurks on the edges. I’m loving it!

bunsenburner, Reverie (2025). This German quintet of three guitars, bass and drums definitely knows how to bring the heavy on this instrumental album. Their style is eclectic but finds its roots in metal. Their playing is solid and headbang-worthy and the arrangements are tight and not too showy. These guys know how to get their point across.

SNAKE-OIL, Eye of Newt (2025). A touch of electronica mostly devoid of guitars regular or bass. Instead, Eye of Newt opts to capture the classic sounds of drum and bass (or “jungle,” as some call it). Killer stutter-step grooves are augmented with atmospheric synthesizers making this record a nice respite from the typical rock-driven albums. These grooves certainly inspire potential guitar leads a la Buckethead or Jeff Beck. But they’re also more than fine left as is.
