CirdecSongs Spins: Miles Davis

I have a small boatload of playlists saved up on Spotify. I’ve labeled them in a number of ways. It finally dawned on me to share them with you.

As of this writing, all my playlists are exclusively on Spotify. I apologize to those of you who don’t use this platform. When time permits, I’ll expand these lists to other formats. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

First up, Miles Davis, one of my three biggest influences. To call me fanatical about his music is … let’s just go with understated.

Miles has said to have changed the face of music (not just jazz) at least five times throughout his career. I would prefer to keep things simple. I broke my playlists into two categories.

Miles began his career acoustically, like pretty much every jazz performer who started his professional career in the 1940’s. So many of his tunes are deemed classics to this day. I thought it would be nice to have my favorites in the same place.

In the late sixties, Miles began what more than a few critics and his fans deemed pure heresy: he demanded his band members begin using electric instruments. In the seventies, Miles took things a step further by my music that embraced aspects of rock and funk. And I was completely onboard.

Here’s hoping you have the will to explore both sides of Miles Davis.
