500 Posts Later, the Adventure Is Just Beginning

It doesn’t seem that long ago, but it has been. Time waits for no man. Neither does music.

Back in the fall of 2017, I decided to create a Facebook group called I Can’t Be the Only One Hearing This. It was designed to work in tandem with my book of the same name, which was released the following spring.

The idea was to create an internet page that served as a companion to the book, which discusses the music I’ve encountered over five decades. Thing is, time comes to a halt when the book ends. Except it doesn’t. Music keeps going. So do I. So the group also serves to introduce members (some 1,600 strong) to music they might otherwise have missed.

Eventually I realized how clunky the Facebook group name sounded, so I changed it to CirdecSongs*, which was the name of the publishing company I created to house the songs I wrote for myself and my band in the early 2000’s. But that’s another tale altogether. The name was also perfect for the website you are perusing this very moment.

From here, I could expand on the book via essays, reviews, interviews, and whatever else came into my ambitious little mind. I knew I had a bit to say, but if you had told me at the beginning that I’d post here 500 times, I might’ve looked at you funny.

Welcome to post 500.

I seriously doubt anyone has read every word I’ve ever posted here. If you DO exist, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I don’t believe much of what I’ve written is dated to the point of irrelevance. So, feel free to go back and root around. Changes will be made soon, but only to make things easier for you.

Not everything I’ve written is pure gold. Some of it is great (in my opinion). Some of it is average. Some of it isn’t as good as it could be. I don’t think anything makes me wince, but I haven’t gone back in a long time. The worst thing I can say about the earlier posts is that some things have changed and others haven’t quite gone according to plan. Such is life.^

Five hundred posts. There seems to be only one logical question: what now?

Quick answer: more of the same, and then some with a few changes. From where I’m sitting, the musical adventure is just beginning.

I’m not gonna go into my grand plans, because who knows how long it’ll take to get everything going. Just stay tuned, and I’ll be sure to let you know.

I’ve said on repeated occasion that I might put together a compilation of my favorite posts and call it CirdecSongs Greatest Hits. Even if I include half the material from this page, it would still be pretty easy to get through. We shall see.

Well, I appreciate your indulgence by letting me toot my own horn for a moment. We’ll be back to our regular programming NEXT!

* — Do you know I actually had to fight Facebook to change the group’s name? Somehow, they felt the new name was inappropriate. Say what? It makes a helluva lot more sense than the original name, I argued. I mean, the new name speaks directly to what the page is about. The original name doesn’t. Facebook … go figure.

^ — One thing that has changed is that more than a few videos I posted back then have been blocked. The copyright monster plays for keeps! This is why I’ve taken to posting links to videos rather than the video itself. If that fails, I’ll just recommend a song. This is the life of the modern music journalist.
